Liu Xiang at Beijing 2008

How is it like to carry the burden to meet the expectations of 1.3billion PRC and many more Chinese residing in other parts of the world?

I don’t know and I don’t think I want to know. But I do know dad is very disappointed cos for the first time he ranted incessantly about something related to sports.

NDP or Beijing 2008?

Life in Random No Comments

Don’t know whether it’s lucky or unlucky, our 43rd NDP coincides with event of the year — Beijing 2008. I’ve not been an ardent supporter of NDP (but I love the pretty fireworks), so my attention would most likely be on the olympics.

Anyhow, to everyone and all 4 patriotic of you who answered the poll.. HAPPY NATIONAL DAY!!

Age is Only a Number

dadMy dad is an amazing man.

He’s 65 this year. He has just signed up a Facebook account.

Oh yes he did.

And despite the rather complicated (and my cluttered) profile page, he managed to find my photo albums and browse them. With my mom. -__-!!

Back in 2000 when I setup a hotmail account for dad, I was already quite amazed at how ready and willing he is to learn this foreign technology of Internet.

He was 57 but it never crossed his mind that he’s too old to learn something new. I really underestimated dad.

Now I’m just waiting for dad to join msn and start blogging.

Maybe he already did.

Cherish Your Cheap Food

Life in Random No Comments

Yes James always tell me how ridiculously priced food we took for granted like chicken rice, laksa, indonesian nasi campur, prata, nasi lemak etc are down under. And how more ridiculously they can’t resist going back week after week just for a taste of home.

I guess food is really a shared passion of Asians — a weekly dose of plate of AU$7.50 nasi lemak is worth it (I’m jumping to conclusion she is Asian cos of how she blogs about food)!

So anyone want to make a guess how much 2 pieces of kosong prata cost in Melbourne? Guesses in the comment.

Greenwood Dining

Life in Random, Recommendations No Comments

It was weekend and we headed to the rich man’s zone for a nice dinner. We walked the whole row of eateries and finally settled at the last one. If it wasn’t for the tables outside, the shop could pass for a grocery store selling fresh fish, vegetables, pasta and wine. I love the setting!

It’ll be a good idea to make reservation cos it seems to be pretty popular (it was full house when we got there around 745pm). Greenwood Avenue is actually quite an ideal place to dine at weekends cos it’s not packed like everywhere else.

Was clearing my inbox today after 2 days of not working and I came across this. Seems just like any other email but what’s that thing doing at the signature?!

The Law of Elimination

Life in Random No Comments

QueenMother has some photos displayed in her living room. One of them is a picture of Small Boobs, QM and me taken when we were *ahem* younger.

As a regular routine to help Ash remember us, QM will take the picture and asks “Where’s Aunty Kat? Where’s mommy? Where’s Aunty Dan?”

Notice how I’m the last?

Ash remembers Small Boobs more cos she sees her more and gets more goodies from her (Small Boobs damn good at bribing kids). So QM is actually teaching Ash a very important skill — the law of elimination.

First QM will get Ash to identify Small Boobs, whom she has no problem. Next mommy, ofcos no issue. Then the 3rd unidentified person is ofcos none other than Aunty Dan lorz.

It’s Early

It’s a random picture that has nothing to do with the post, I just like it. And for those who saw SATC, this piece of Vivienne Westwood gown apparently costs US$22,760! There, some irrelevant trivial for you. Oh and the blue thingy on her head is a bird, not just feathers.

Picked James from airport this morning. Early morning. Was awaken by a familiar but retro ringtone, for about 2 seconds I stared at the phone with the word “Call” blinking on the screen meaning an overseas call.

Signal finally reached my brain to pick up the call, it was James. SQ being SQ, he arrived early. At 5.35am. He’s suppose to touchdown at 6am. Yawn!

Sprang up, washed up, dressed and cruised my way down to T3. He was waiting at the basement foodcourt, there were some folks sleeping unglamly on the booth seats. So much for airport image.

Got home after breakfast and since there’s still time, I snoozed. Next thing the alarm rang. Double yawn!

Sooo weird to have my day started so early.

Chinese Dinner and Shopping

Life in Random No Comments

It’s been a long while since I last had a proper sit down Chinese dinner completed with 3 dishes, soup, bowl of white rice and chopsticks. Having dinner in that setting with Dave last night, it dawned on me this is still my favourite food. I’m Chinese so that’s how my meal should be.

We went Cold Storage for grocery shopping after dinner cos I have vouchers worth $50 and thought we should quickly spend it before it gets forgotten.

We thought $50 can buy the whole store. Mistake number 1.

Took a trolley (mistake number 2) and off we went our jolly way. Freely dumping shopping items into the trolley that looks so big and empty.

3/4 way through the shopping, Dave looked at the items and asked if we’ve got enough to spend the whole $50 voucher. I estimated it to be enough but we went on to pick up a few more things anyways.

When we started unloading the trolley at the cashier, I had a feeling we’ve overspent. To no one’s surprise, indeed we did. But the facepalm moment is that we’ve overspent by more than what our voucher is worth, which in simple term means on top of the $50 voucher, we topped up another $60.

We both are definitely not made for career in finance cos our budgeting ability sucks! Overspent by 120%! -_-”

This is why I say trolley is bad. Very bad. It gives you this illusion you haven’t bought alot of stuff, which in reality is the opposite.

Only consolation is we did not buy to the extent that we cannot carry them to the house in one trip.

Let’s just say we’ll be having quite abit of food and detergent and toilet rolls and packs of tissue to last us.
