I heard on the radio yesterday morning of people lamenting how badly they want to attend the National Day Parade and how unlucky they are despite annual participation in the ticket balloting system they are never picked, and how the government should consider improving the system so every Singaporean will get a chance to go in their lifetime blah blah.
As I listen, I was thinking to myself, “Why would people want to go and get themselves squashed on the way there and on the way back, with total impossiblities in finding carpark and be stuck in a massive jam hours after the NDP has finished?!”.
This is call patriotism, they say.
I have the opportunity to go. No balloting required. But I don’t want.
If you ask me do I feel a sense of pride when Singapore is mentioned when I’m overseas? Well, depends where, what and by who. I do feel proud that I’m a Singaporean, at times. Other times, I’m just indifferent.
I ish so not patriotic.
